El Estado de México registra cada año aproximadamente 13 mil 845 defunciones a consecuencia de la diabetes mellitus, es decir, diariamente mueren 38 mexiquenses de acuerdo con cifras del Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI). Las estadísticas de 2015, últimas con datos oficiales, posicionan a esta enfermedad como la segunda causa de mortandad en la entidad.
De ahí que la legisladora de Morena, Berenice Medrano Rosas, dijo que es necesario que en el Estado de México se implementen programas necesarios para brindar mayor información y concientizar a la población sobre su prevención.
Dijo que la llamada “enfermedad silenciosa”, puede desarrollarse en las personas sin mostrar síntomas al inicio, pero si no se maneja adecuadamente, la diabetes puede conducir a graves complicaciones, como problemas cardíacos, renales, de la vista y también circulatorios que pueden causar discapacidad permanente o hasta una muerte prematura.
“La diabetes se puede prevenir o demorar a través de cambios del estilo de vida. Y para ello se requieren programas de prevención, detección y control, mediante servicios de atención de salud accesibles, centrados en el paciente e integrados en la atención primaria de salud”.
Agregó que la diabetes tipo 2 es la más común y representa de 85 a 90 por ciento de los casos, y los principales factores de riesgo son antecedentes familiares, además de la obesidad, peso excesivo, falta de actividad física y regímenes de alimentación de alto contenido calórico y poco valor nutritivo.
“Los programas de prevención y detección de la diabetes pueden considerarse una carga económica para el sector salud, pero si ponderamos los costos del tratamiento y las consecuencias de la diabetes, llegaremos a la conclusión que lo más conveniente es la prevención”.
Indicó que la edad promedio para desarrollar este padecimiento va de los 30 a los 59 años, además, tres de cada 10 niños y siete de cada 10 adultos presentan sobrepeso u obesidad, que son los principales factores de riesgo.
La legisladora apuntó que la diabetes implica una modificación de la vida de la persona que la padece, así como de sus familiares, y un impacto en su entorno familiar, laboral y social.
Por lo anterior, la prevención se debe realizar en tres niveles que implican la detección temprana, tratamiento eficaz, educación y control metabólico, así como la corrección o reducción de los principales factores de riesgo con respecto a trastornos específicos que padecen las personas con diabetes.
